The Chinese medicine alternative to conventional or natural hormone replacement therapy

There are well-known Chinese herbs that help balance hormones. One such herb is dong quai, which helps the liver safely metabolize estrogen. It also contains iron and vitamin E, as is especially good for treating hot flashes because it is thought to help stabilize the blood vessels.

In premenopausal women it is used to help regulate menstruation and to help assure a healthy pregnancy and easy delivery. It does this by stimulating the uterus and producing an increase in uterine contractions. By increasing uterine weight and glucose use by the liver and uterus it helps boost and balance estrogen activities in the body.

Other herbs that help with estrogen regulation

Black cohosh

Black cohosh supports healthy estrogen metabolism(i.e., the body uses these elements as raw materials to produce its own hormones and only in the amount it needs), an antispasmodic, and emmenagogue. It was widely used by the American Indians and later by American colonists for the relief of menstrual cramps and menopause. Recent scientific investigation has upheld the use of black cohosh in treating both dysmenorrhea and menopause.

Clinical studies have shown that this herbal extract relieves not only hot flashes, but also depression and vaginal atrophy This herb could be a good natural alternative or support for conventional and natural hormone replacement therapy. The herb is well tolerated and produces very few side effects.

Licorice

Licorice root is useful for treating many hormonal issues. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years in western and eastern cultures. It is used to ease the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, by helping regulate the cyclical increase in the estrogen-to-progesterone ratio.

The estrogen mimicking activity of licorice is thought to give beneficial effect to women suffering from menopause symptoms. It is a wonderful support for natural hormone replacement therapy. It works best combined with potassium. And it taste good too! Estrogen intake of licorice can lead to potassium depletion, sodium retention, fluid retention and elevated blood pressure.

Chasteberry

This remedy is extremely popular in Europe for treating the discomforts of menopause. It is a great alternative or support for women considering natural hormone replacement therapy. Chasteberry works primarily through the pituitary gland to help indirectly regulate the production of sex hormones.

Chasteberry also contains estrogen and progesterone-like compounds that are thought to alter the secretions of other sex hormones. Though it is called Chasteberry because it was used to reduce the libido of women hundreds of years ago, it does not reduce libido during menopause. This is an extremely useful herb to use for natural hormone replacement therapy.
